Logos of German Burners
German burner manufacturers have pretty much dominated the continental European market with their mass production. Four manufacturers in particular have also produced a large number of wick knob logos through their export to other European countries. These are (in alphabetical order) Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse, Ehrich & Graetz, Hugo Schneider and Wild & Wessel. Therefore, I have collected the corresponding logos from these 4 manufacturers separately from all other German logos.
Wick Knob Logos of Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse (= BJB)
Wick Knob Logos of Ehrich & Graetz (= E&G)
Ehrich & Graetz have created a very well-known logo in which two stylised dragons* face each other. With a little imagination, you can see the letters E (left; similar to the Greek epsilon Є) and G (right; like a handwritten g) on these dragons. There are variations of this logo with different looking bodies, faces and wings of dragons. It is interesting to note that even the feet (or what may be called "foot" here) are shown in varying numbers. I have logos with 4, 5 and 7 dragon feet.
*) Note: The dragons are in fact not supposed to be dragons, but stylised seahorses, which are lucky charms of the Graetz family.
Wick Knob Logos of Hugo Schneider (= HS)
There is also a widely used logo by Hugo Schneider, which features a cogwheel, two wings and a torch-like burning lamp. The letters HS are inset in the cogwheel. There are also many variations of this logo. In particular, the depiction of the wings and the torch-like lamp often vary. There are also some logos where the letters HS are missing. I have shown 5 of these variations in the collection below.
Wick Knob Logos of Wild & Wessel (= W&W)
Wild & Wessel, as one of the most renowned manufacturers not only of high-quality lamps but also of high-quality burners, also have a world-famous, unmistakable logo with two wings and an oil lamp (wings were probably extremely important and symbolically charged at the time; they literally "gave wings" to their company). There are also variations of this logo with different designs of the wings as well as the oil lamp.
