L.162
A piano lamp by Kästner & Töbelmann from the Art Nouveau period, made around 1900-1910. The lamp has a beautifully crafted support arm in Art Nouveau design. It is illustrated in K&T catalogues, but with a fabric shade. Such shades do not appear on eBay at all.
The lamp did not have a shade support, so I was finally able to fit it with a beautiful Vesta shade. I got a painted Vesta shade from the USA from the well-known shade manufacturer Ives. These shades were made there for student/reading lamps. This shade was now a perfect match for this lamp. The shade is probably from the first quarter of the 20th century, as the painting has certain Art Nouveau borrowings.
The supplied burner from Kästner & Toebelmann was very good, but unfortunately the basket was so badly dented that I had to replace it. In the meantime I got a very good K&T burner, which I was able to use here.
I think the German piano lamp and the American shade form a very harmonious unit.
