L.148
This piano lamp is an original by C.F.Kindermann in Berlin, as it bears their trademark (boy with 2 lamps). It probably belongs to a somewhat earlier period (around 1885-1890; Historicism era). I find it very beautifully decorated and also original with the two plaques on the burner part. One plaque shows a boy with a winged helmet carrying a kerosene/paraffin hanging lantern and a kerosene/paraffin table lamp in his hands. This plaque is also Kindermann's trademark.
Cleaning the lamp was very tedious, as the lamp was probably protected with a very good protective lacquer. Nevertheless, it was uniformly darkened.
The 10’’’ Kosmos burner is from Kleemann, soldered with the shade holder for cardboard shades. The upper holder was soldered rather crooked, I had to re-solder it in a horizontal position.
I found an extremely rare, small flat shade that resembles the original Wild & Wessel flat shades, but is much smaller and has no dedicated neck area. I added a hand crocheted lace border to this shade. From my friend Ara I also got a shade crown made of sheet brass. This crown is from S.V.E. (=Société des Verreries pour l'Éclairage, Paris). I have centred the crown with soldered brass pieces.
In the end, a real piece of jewellery was created, which has a cosy, homely aura with the shade and the attached lace border, which is unusual for such lamps.
