A rather simple lamp with a beautiful green glass font that catches the eye. When I discovered the lamp in an antique market, it was this font alone that attracted my attention. The base had almost turned black and was almost invisible. I suspect that the lamp dates more from the first decades of the 20th century, around 1910-1920, and presumably from Germany.

The metal base, which has several openings, is made of cast iron and had several rusty spots. After rust removal, I painted the foot with brass paint and carefully patinated it with shoe polish. One problem was the crookedness of the font. Since the glass peg was formed crooked at the bottom during hand blowing, the metal undermount had been plastered to it without taking the crookedness into account. I was able to remove the metal undermount from the font by grinding it off to the side with the Proxxon flex disc and cement it in again by holding the font straight vertically.

I replaced the defective burner with a good Kosmos burner.

The old Vesta shade with the flat rolled top edge is not hand-painted, but the motifs are sprayed with stencils. It still looks nice and harmonises with the lamp.

Cleaning and repairs:
The crooked font undermount was removed and re-cemented. Cast iron foot derusted, painted and patinated.

Lamp body:
Base of multiple openwork cast iron, somewhat corroded. Derusted and repainted with brass paint; subsequently patinated with shoe polish. Ø 165 mm.
Quite large font of hand-blown, light green, transparent glass, optically vertically broadly ribbed, with large overflow edge, hand-painted with enamel colours, Ø 155 mm. The font is removable.

14’’’ Kosmos burner of Kästner & Töbelmann, Erfurt; soldered to the shade holder.
Wick knob marked: Kaestner & Toebelmann, Erfurt, 14'''. Black glass insert.
Flat wick 65 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 256 mm, Ø fitter 52 mm.
Marked: Frafordu 1a Cristall garantiert - "FF" Glas Düsseldorf - Kosmos-Cyl. 14'''.

Shade and shade holder:
Vesta shade, white milk glass, coloured floral decoration sprayed with stencils, top rim flat rolled.
Height 160 mm, Ø fitter 234 and bulge 258 mm.
235 mm shade holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners; soldered to the burner.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 20.7 cm, total height with chimney 50.0 cm.
Total weight 1630 g.
