A completely playful, beautifully designed lamp, presumably from France, with a trumpet-blowing cherub sitting on a high base. There are other variations of this lamp with a different cherub or with a different base. I suspect the lamp was made around 1900.

The base alone is quite majestic, with fine baroque ornamentation, on three elaborately designed feet. The base part was unfortunately quite bent and crooked. I had to bend the zinc casting very carefully to a horizontal position. The applied copper bronzing was half worn off, so that the shiny zinc cast could be seen in many places. I treated the entire base part and the font bracket behind the putto with a mixture of copper and gold wax. The trumpet-blowing putto figure crowns the lamp. I covered this figure only with gold wax to add a colour accent to the copper-coloured base.

The glass font on the lamp was a very small plug-in font for 8-line burners and did not fit the lamp at all. So I replaced this font with another, beautifully painted glass font. Accordingly, I also had to replace the burner and chimney.

The absolute highlight is the beautiful tulip in light pink, with two finely etched depictions of putti in a playful rococo design. In my opinion, this tulip shade is a wonderful addition to the cherub figure of the lamp!

Cleaning and repairs:
Corrected the misalignment of the base. New font plastered. Base and font holder treated with copper + gold wax, putto treated with gold wax.

Lamp body:
Base made of ornamental cast zinc on three feet, baroque design, side length 186 mm. On the base pedestal sits a putto figure, blowing a trumpet, also made of cast zinc.
Font made of colourless glass, frosted, enamel painting, optically ribbed, Ø 124 mm.

Burner:
10’’’ Kosmos burner of Hugo Schneider (?), Leipzig.
Wick knob marked: Kosmos Brenner.
Flat wick 48 mm.

Glass chimney:
10’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 248 mm, Ø fitter 38 mm.
Marked: Cristal Recuit 10’’’ + mill in a circle.

Shade and shade holder:
Tulip shade, light pink glass, frosted and embossed, cameo-etched putti and flowers, fluted top rim.
Height 167 mm, Ø fitter 66 and top rim 113 mm.
70 mm globe holder for 10’’’ burners.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 36.4 cm, total height with chimney 64.3 cm.
Total weight 2250 g.
