L.242
An Art Nouveau hanging lamp with majolica vase and rare, large tulip shade. Imposing appearance with 6 supporting arms, each with a candle holder. With burning candles and glittering crystal drops, the lamp takes on a stately appearance. Probably from Germany or Austria; made around 1900-1920.
The lamp features a majolica vase in shades of red and green and 6 support arms with candle holders in a beautiful Art Nouveau pattern. The large, charming tulip shade is very well matched in colour. The original bronzing of the iron parts has been almost completely preserved, so that I only had to slightly correct it here and there with a brush.
As usual, the drop catchers of the candles had holes for hanging crystals. Shortly afterwards, I was able to buy the 36 crystal drops very cheaply at a Barcelona flea market. With the crystals, the lamp is heavier than the counterweight can balance it well, so I screwed the pull chains tight to prevent the lamp from sliding down. It may also be that the counterweight is not original to the lamp and is a little too small.
I was able to replace the missing smoke bell quite well. A 20’’’ Intensiv burner from Schubert & Sorge with the matching bottle-shaped chimney complements the lamp very well. The deflector of the burner had some holes and cracks, which I was able to solder up with appropriately cut and bent brass plates.
