L.166
An elegant Wild & Wessel lamp, different from the usual zinc cast and glass lamps, made of hand-painted KPM porcelain. Production probably around 1880-1890.
The vase in conical goblet form is finely painted on both sides: in the front with pink bush roses, in the back with yellow roses. The painting at the back is somewhat smaller. At the top and bottom, the vase is decorated with golden decorative lines and wide light pink bands. The gold painting is almost not rubbed off. The vase is marked at the bottom with the blue sceptre mark, additionally with a red imperial orb mark and the letters KPM. The lead weight under the base bears the mark W&W. The lamp is a noble product of Wild & Wessel.
The burner that came with the lamp was from Hugo Schneider, which I replaced with an original W&W burner. The burner had a beautifully decorated 70 mm globe holder. But as my intended tulip shade from the UK had a fitter width of 75 mm, it did not fit into the globe holder. So I used decorative brass band to make another, wider globe holder to sit on top of the original globe holder.
The medium-sized British tulip shade with dark cranberry colour is very suitable for the lamp.
Much later I got a 10''' Kosmos chimney that has the W&W logo on it (but without the letters W.W.).
