L.183

A German glass lamp with zinc cast and alabaster parts and with a glass font by Pallme-König. The lamp is in all parts from the Art Nouveau period. Probably made around 1905-1910. It is highly probable that the lamp is by Ehrich & Graetz, but there is no proof of this.

The glass font is illustrated in the Ehrich & Graetz catalogue of 1908. It is very likely that E&G obtained such fonts from the Elisabeth glass factory in Kosten, Bohemia. This factory was owned by the Bohemian glass manufacturer Pallme-König.

Judging by the complicated construction of the base alone, this lamp is made for high demands. The base is made of galvanically bronzed, openwork zinc casting. About half of the bronzing has been preserved. I primed it with black shoe polish and bronzed it with gold wax.

For the shade, I was able to acquire a painted Vesta shade in Art Nouveau form. The Wild & Wessel burner is interesting because it has a logo with the simple name "Kosmos Brenner". Presumably it was made for a dealer.
