L.351

A classic, simple German lamp with clear glass font and ornamental cast zinc base. Bought because of the beautifully painted Vesta shade. Dated around 1900.

I guess some lamps are waiting just for me. This lamp was offered once before in an antique market. At that time I could not decide to buy it. After two years in the same antique market, it was still waiting for a buyer. But the beautifully painted Vesta shade in Art Nouveau style attracted me. So this time the lamp came home with me.... Apart from a hairline crack on the glass font, which in itself does no harm, there is nothing wrong with the lamp. It is a beautiful German lamp with harmonious dimensions. I only had to insert a new wick.

The zinc base was originally galvanically bronzed. Remains of this bronzing can be seen well under the base. The bronzing had probably rubbed off quite a bit on the surface of the base over time. The base was therefore later painted with a gold bronze. But this paint was also in a bad condition; it was considerably tarnished and cracked in places, revealing the bare zinc surface. I therefore carried out a bronzing using my own method. The baroque decorated base can now be seen....
