L.258

A coherent, beautiful looking German Art Nouveau lamp, most probably by Kästner & Töbelmann, as all stylistic attributes and the included burner are by K&T. Under the foot is handwritten: 3759 and 12,50. The first number could be a model number; the second entry is probably the price in Reichsmark at that time.

The base and the column capital are made of cast zinc, which used to be galvanically bronzed to a very beautiful shine, and later, when many parts had already been rubbed bare, was painted by hand with bronze paint. In the meantime, this paint had also become very dull and worn. I therefore removed it with caustic soda and painted and patinated the parts with two different brass colours.

The 20''' Titan burner contains a small mechanism which allows the wick holder to be removed from the burner housing without difficulty. The flame disc is original from Titan burner.

I put the Art Nouveau Vesta shade from another lamp on here, as it matches the lamp perfectly in terms of colours. The shade has a flower motif painted three times with very beautiful colouring. The upper edge of the neck is ruffled, but not in a skirt shape. The Titan chimney also belonged to another lamp; here on the Titan burner it got a much better place.

For me, this lamp belongs to the harmonious Art Nouveau lamps with a Vesta shade.
