A French lamp with a decorative hand-painted Gien vase, cast metal base and brass font. Vase dated 1905. Lamp later electrified (reversed by me). An exceptional lamp that immediately catches the eye with its polychrome floral painting on a blue background.

The Gien vase is signed and dated with the letter B at the bottom. B stands for 1879 or 1905. The decoration and painting of the vase (printed black lines; polychrome enamel painting by hand) indicate 1905. The hole for the threaded rod has been drilled later. Handwritten on the bottom: 82.

The font contains an additional container made of sheet brass and the actual glass font. Both are drilled from below to pass the electric cable. I soldered the metal font shut at the bottom and sealed the glass font from the inside with epoxy resin.

Both the decorated metal font and the base were subsequently painted with copper bronze. Underneath, the brass surface was quite tarnished. I therefore spent hours removing the copper paint and tarnish from the entire surface and polished it.

To complete this large, colourful lamp, I used a St. Louis tulip shade and (just fitting from the fitter width) a 14’’’ Kosmos burner from SI Paris. I was not able to attach an additional globe holder.
