L.220

(Continuation of the description from lamp L.219)

The second Gien vase had a hairline crack on the upper rim. The second St. Louis tulip shade also. I had both cracks repaired by Mr Kühnel.

I then replaced the burners in both lamps with two identical W&W Kosmos burners. The burner of this lamp is a combination of two separate parts: The wick tube and the basket were each components of other burners that were incorrectly joined together. Both together resulted in a completely correct W&W Kosmos burner here, and one that is identical to the other burner.

The addition of two identical Kosmos chimneys and globe holders resulted in a pair of lamps identical in all parts.

Such pairs of lamps were in great demand in the past to decorate a sideboard or mantelpiece symmetrically to each other at both ends. Today, they are less often found belonging together and are accordingly somewhat more expensive. It often becomes more difficult to find a pair of shades that fit well in size and style. Therefore, I consider it a stroke of luck that I have managed the balancing act of integrating a valuable pair of lamps with a favourable overall cost into my collection.
