L.219
This lamp belongs to a pair of lamps with Gien vases, St. Louis tulips and Wild & Wessel burners. The other lamp is the L.220. Both were purchased quite inexpensively through fortunate circumstances and are of high quality.
One of the lamps had a hairline crack at the top of the vase; I was able to buy the pair quite cheaply probably because of this. The two tulip shades were offered by another seller as ordinary lampshades. One of them had a hairline crack at the top. That's why I was able to buy them also very cheaply. It was not difficult to complete the lamps with two identical burners and chimneys, as I already had them available.
The vases are from the famous French ceramic manufacturer Gien (Faïencerie de Gien, founded in 1821, still existing today). The outlines of the decorations as well as the trims at the top and bottom are printed; the colour was then applied by hand. On the bottom they are stamped with the company logo (letters GIEN inserted into each other) and the letter W. W stands for 1874, 1900 or 1926 as the date. Since this bottom mark was not introduced until 1875, 1874 is not correct. 1926 is probably also ruled out, as such elaborately decorated lamps were then no longer produced. This leaves 1900 as the date of manufacture.
For further description see lamp L.220.
