L.188

An interesting glass lamp from France, the vase of which consists of two overlaid layers of glass enclosing zigzag-shaped air chambers in between. Probably made before or around 1900.

I bought this lamp at an auction in France together with the lamp L.187. What primarily attracted me were the interesting glass vases. The vase of this lamp is made of white milk glass overlaid with pink glass. In the process, zigzag-shaped air chambers have been enclosed and the glass has also been formed into a vertical bulbous shape. Certainly the work of a master glassblower.

The base is made of an openwork brass casting with 4 elongated faces as feet.

The 12-line burner by Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse has the letters P and B on the wick knob. Probably a special version for a dealer in France. The thread of the burner had come off and was stuck in the collar of the font. With some force I was able to detach it and solder it back onto the burner.

The tulip shade from France with etched chrysanthemum motifs complements the lamp perfectly, as it harmonises very well in terms of colour.

Vase of white milk glass, pink overlaid, with zigzag-shaped air chambers, vertically divided into bulbous segments, Ø 123 mm.
Font of galvanised sheet iron with decorated brass plate as lid, Ø 104 mm, hidden in the vase.

12’’’ Kosmos burner of Brökelmann, Jaeger & Busse, Neheim (for a dealer PB?).
Wick knob marked: Kosmos-Brenner (logo of BJB) + PB.
Flat wick 58 mm.

Glass chimney:
12’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 252 mm, Ø fitter 44 mm.
Marked: Perfect Cristal 12''' + crown and garland.

Shade and shade holder:
Tulip shade, frosted glass, purple-red top, colourless bottom, deep-etched chrysanthemums, top rim fluted and frilled.
Height 148 mm, Ø fitter 66 and top rim 185 mm.
70 mm globe holder for 10’’’ burners, slotted and adapted to the burner.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 22.3 cm, total height with chimney 51.7 cm.
Total weight 1420 g.
