This lamp has a strictly cylindrical ceramic vase from the famous French ceramic manufactory Longwy. Founded in 1798, this manufactory (Faïencerie de Longwy, still existing today) is world-famous for its ceramic wares painted with intense and impasto enamel colours, which have long been highly prized by collectors.

I was also fascinated by the floral patterns in intense blue and was determined to have a lamp with a Longwy vase in my collection. I succeeded in this endeavour with this lamp, probably only because it was electrified. Otherwise kerosene/paraffin lamps with Longwy vases reach very high prices.

The electrification could easily be reversed: I removed the metal parts that had been added later, as well as the socket with the adapter, and sealed the hole at the tin font with a soldered piece of sheet metal. This also revealed that the Longwy vase was made as a real vase and not as a kerosene/paraffin vase, because a hole had to be drilled at the bottom so that the threaded rod of the sheet metal font could pass through. The vase is signed "Longwy II" at the bottom with a pressed-in bottom mark. Production probably around 1885-1890.

As burner I used a 14''' Kosmos burner. A colourfully painted tulip shade made of turquoise glass completed the beautiful lamp, which is well worth its price.
