L.340
A beautiful, probably also quite old candlestick in the form of a hippocampus, the fish tail of which is shaped as a handle. The hippocampus is a mythological creature of the sea, whose body shows a horse at the front, but has a longer tail with a fish tail at the back. Fore limbs are shaped like real fish fins. The hippocampus sculpture on this candlestick is screwed onto a rectangular base with 6 feet and carries the candle holder on its head. The whole candlestick is made of cast bronze or brass with a light green patina. I only polished the light brown patina carefully, but didn't remove it.
The font is a typical French peg lamp font, to be inserted into former candlesticks, but nicely painted with purple flowers.
The pretty, iridescent green tulip shade with baroque decoration completes the lamp.
