L.267
A typical French lamp, consisting of an ornate cast zinc base, a short baluster-shaped central section made of marble and a painted glass font. This type of lamp must have been very popular in France; stylistically unchanged, they were produced and marketed in large quantities until the 1920's, while other countries had long since moved on to much plainer, unadorned lamps made entirely of sheet brass.
The lamp has a nice baroque decorated cast zinc base that has been dark bronzed with sparse gold highlights. I have not changed the bronzing / patination on the cast zinc parts.
Between the base and the font is a short column of dark green, yellow-veined marble in baluster form. The polychrome painted font matches the rest of the lamp stylistically very well. The tulip shade I got is also a stroke of luck in this respect, as it has a quite similar painting with golden decorative lines and small roses. If it also had a slightly greenish instead of purple undertone at the bottom, it would be just perfect.
I have used a rare Phénomène chimney here, which not only has a very unusual shape, but also provides a better flame. This statement is based on a test I carried out as part of the work for the sub-chapter Kosmos Chimneys.
