A classic pillar lamp from France. The base is made of cast brass with a marble plinth; the Corinthian column stands on it. The unusual feature of the lamp is the intense purple veined marble.

The lamp came without a font. However, the metal undermount was still present on the column. So I looked for an additional glass font that was the right size and did not have a metal undermount. If you look for a long time, you will find it. I bought a beautiful glass font of Baccarat, which is decorated with a series of olive cuts and fits very well in terms of size.

The ball shade is also by Baccarat. It is very harmoniously and finely etched with butterflies and flowers. This ball shade is actually a shade for Moderator lamps. Its opening at the bottom is so small that it hardly fits over a 14''' Kosmos burner. In my experience, only 14’’’ Kosmos burners of Gaudard and S.I. Paris can be used with these ball shades, but only if the outer tips of the gallery prongs are bent back as far as possible. The German Kosmos burners are somewhat wider and are not suitable to be fitted with these shades.

This lamp is certainly not a very spectacular lamp, but with its violet marble column and the two glass parts from Baccarat, it is already something extraordinary.

Plain rectangular cast brass base on 4 feet, 123 x 123 mm. On the brass base a square marble plinth.
The marble plinth and column of violet-veined marble. Base and capital of the Corinthian column of cast brass. Marble column tapering conically towards the top.
Clear crystal glass font by Baccarat, elongated olive cuts on the upper rim, Ø 159 mm.

Burner:
14’’’ Kosmos burner of S.I. (= Societé industrielle d’articles d‘éclairage), Paris.
Wick knob marked: Logo of S.I. Paris. Black resin inlay.
Flat wick 66 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 248 mm, Ø fitter 52 mm.
Marked: Cristal Supérieur 14''' + crown in garland.

Shade and shade holder:
Ball shade by Baccarat, colourless glass, frosted, deep-etched butterflies and flowers, two brass rings. Without slip fitter.
Height 180 mm, Ø bottom opening 56 and bulge 190 mm.
Globe holder not necessary.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 47.7 cm, total height with chimney 76.4 cm.
Total weight 3820 g.
