L.035
A large, rare lamp from France. Extraordinary not only because of its size, but because of the column, which is made of dark blue porcelain decorated with hand-painted flowers. Lamps of this size with a porcelain column are very rare. The porcelain column is very slightly crooked. The font is also unfortunately set at an angle. I had to find the best position by turning the parts.
The lamp body is a complicated combination of several cast brass parts together with the porcelain column. All the brass parts of the Corinthian column are probably gilded. Together with the crystal clear, polished font, this lamp looks luxurious and sublime. It was most likely built for a rich, upper class society.
The search for a suitable, equally luxurious tulip shade took a long time. Only much later did I find a tulip shade whose size and painting matched the lamp. I had to repair the Agni burner that came with it with a soldered brass piece, because the deflector wall had cracks and a missing part at the top. It was only years later that I was able to buy an original Agni flame disc.
Fortunately, I was able to complete the lamp with a marked Agni chimney. As you can easily see from this example, it sometimes takes several years before a rare lamp can be completed in style and with high-quality matching parts.
