L.010

A very French lamp with a short marble column and with nickel-plated zinc cast parts in Art Nouveau style. This combination of relatively small marble parts with very beautifully decorated cast zinc parts is very common in France. There are also versions with egg-shaped or baluster-shaped column elements, always beautifully combined with metal parts made of cast brass or cast zinc. One can say that the French lamp makers have exhausted all possible design variations for column lamps.

The lamp body consists of finely cast metal parts with two red-veined marble pieces in between. The base is marked Deposé 2800. The lower marble plate was broken many times; I carefully cleaned and glued it. All the metal parts have embossed numbers corresponding to the designation under the base: Font undermount: 2811; top of column: 2810; bottom of column 2820.

The font with painted orange-red flowers gives the lamp a cheerful touch.

The burner labelled "Polaire 15''' Extra" is actually the Polarstern burner by Hugo Schneider, but renamed for the French market. The fact that the original flame disc was present actually turned out to be good luck: this burner burns well and still.

Later I got a matching large tulip shade with an intense orange-red top rim. It goes very well with this lamp, as it harmonises excellently with the floral colours on the font.
