A small, French tripod lamp with a sad background. I had travelled to Istanbul for the funeral of a close relative. By chance, I discovered a whole street of antique dealers on the Asian side of Istanbul, where the family of the deceased lives. Interestingly, there were also a lot of kerosene/paraffin lamps there, some of them large and valuable, but at very high prices! I finally bought this small lamp for my late cousin's memory. It is the only lamp I bought in Istanbul.

The lamp is in the style of the French "Empire" lamps on three legs made of cast brass. The castings in the form of ram legs and heads are very finely executed. At the top of the vase rim is a wide brass decorative band, also with very fine stamping. The burner is a normal 8-line Kosmos burner from Wild & Wessel.

The iron sheet font was leaking a bit at the seam on the side. I soldered the seam shut.

I completed the lamp with a matching chimney, a hand-painted tulip and a matching globe holder.

Lamp body:
Base of sheet brass, round, Ø 88 mm. In the base a cast iron weight. Three supporting arms in the form of rams' legs and heads are screwed to the base, supporting a finely decorated brass ring. The vase of plain brass is set in this ring. Ornamental brass contours.
Sheet iron font, hidden in the vase. Lid of sheet brass, Ø 81 mm.

Wick knob marked: W&W Kosmos. Wick knob back: Ornamental W&W cord.
Wick tube marked: 8''' Kosmos.
Flat wick 42 mm.

Glass chimney:
8’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 235 mm, Ø fitter 37 mm.
Marked: Importé de Tchécoslovaquie - Cristal de Bohême 8''' + radiant star in an oval frame.

Shade and shade holder:
Tulip shade, frosted glass, light green at the bottom, colourless at the top, painted flowers, fluted top rim.
Height 104 mm, Ø fitter 52 and top rim 147 mm.
52 mm globe holder for 8’’’/10’’’ burners.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 18.7 cm, total height with chimney 45.5 cm.
Total weight 1070 g.
