L.131
Again a rather small, but due to the Art Nouveau foot part very charming French lamp from ca. 1900-1910. The design of the cast zinc body is distantly reminiscent of tripod lamps.
As soon as I unpacked it, I discovered that one of the feet had broken off in transport! Careful, tentative soldering with a relatively low soldering temperature did not help; the foot came off again. Of necessity I glued it in place with a small brass plate underneath.
The font with its intense green colour was perfectly complemented by an unusually shaped tulip shade of the same colour. Size, colour and playful shape were made for the lamp! And interestingly enough, it made the long journey from Australia to me. However, it had a cantilevered, lipped fitter about 89 mm in diameter, and no globe holder fit snugly. The 95 mm globe holders were too big; the 85 mm globe holders were too small. Of necessity, I spent hours grinding down the tulip shade's overhanging fitter until the tulip could be placed in an ordinary globe holder. A matching 85 mm globe holder combined with a 70 mm globe holder then completed the lamp adequately.
