L.122
A slender but very elegant lamp with a marble base, a column in Champlevé technique, finely cast brass mounts and a precious, beautifully cut crystal font. In this very high quality combination, it is obviously made for high demands.
The Champlevé work on the column is reminiscent of arabesque motifs. It is very finely and carefully executed. The seller mentioned that the column could possibly be the work of the famous French metal artist Barbedienne (Gustave Leblanc Barbedienne, 1849-1945). Column base and column capital in Corinthian style are probably gilded. The stronger marble base gives the lamp not only a raised appearance, but also quite a bit of weight.
The crystal font impresses with multiple olive and facet cuts.
As a shade, a light yellow-green coloured French tulip fitted quite well. The tulip shade is finely etched and emphasises the slender shape of the lamp.
