L.050

This French lamp is a find at a flea market in the south of Paris. The elegantly shaped base made of solid brass and the sparsely painted glass font are typical of French lamps. This lamp is likely to have been made around 1900-1910.

The base has a very interesting appearance with the three openwork openings, which are clear Gothic style elements. The column elements set on top are also made of cast brass. The glass font is firmly cemented in place. The nut of the threaded rod is rusted and caked. Therefore, the lamp cannot be dismantled.

The lamp had an electric socket when I got it. I replaced this socket with a 20’’’ Hugo Schneider burner.

I had bought a new honey-coloured Vesta shade shortly before, which my wife liked very much with its colour. And indeed, the lamp looks very good with this shade; the proportions are harmonious.

The burner burns very nicely and consistently. This lamp is therefore often used outside at garden parties and every time the soft, beautiful glow of the lamp is very much admired.

Base and column together of heavy cast brass, ornamentally pierced with Gothic windows, hexagonally round, Ø 174 mm. Nut on threaded rod rusted, cannot be unscrewed.
Font of frost-etched glass, hand-painted with floral motifs, Ø 153 mm, not removable.

20’’’ Hugo burner of Hugo Schneider, Leipzig, for export to France.
Wick knob marked: HS (Logo of Hugo Schneider). Black glass inlay.
Wick knob ring marked: 20’’’ Bec Hugo.
Original flame disc Hugo Schneider, marked: 20’’’ Hugo + Logo HS.

Glass chimney:
20’’’ Matador chimney. Height 281 mm, Ø fitter 64 mm.

New Vesta shade, white milk glass with honey-coloured overlay, fluted top rim.
