A typical French lamp with Champlevé parts, which were the main reason why I bought it at auction. These lamps with an egg-shaped column part made of marble or onyx marble were probably quite popular in France; they appear often on eBay France. Production around 1900-1915.

The interplay of the blue and green tones of the lamp is charming. The font is made of clear glass, which is optically ribbed. The colour of the font is a beautiful clear blue, which I like very much.

The base/column combination is quite intricately constructed from several parts. It is interesting to note that in all lamps that have a similar egg-shaped marble part as a column, this part is mounted with the wide end pointing upwards.

In this lamp, the egg made of green onyx marble is set between two precisely matched Champlevé contours. A narrow, round Champlevé ring is also mounted on the base. The interplay of the Champlevé parts in predominantly blue colour with the green of the onyx marble and the blue of the glass font results in a charming interplay of colours.

The tulip shade I chose with its light green colour harmonises very well with the colours of the lamp. This tulip shade was newly made from old moulds of the glass manufactory S. Reich, Vienna. The original is shown in the 1901 catalogue.

Tulip shade, light green glass, frosted, embossed, flat transparent motifs, top rim fluted and frilled. New production from an old mould of glass manufactory S. Reich.
Height 153 mm, Ø fitter 67 and bulge 136 mm.
70 mm globe holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners.

Height up to collar 27.5 cm, total height with chimney 56.1 cm.
