I found this French lamp with a large Satsuma vase in a huge flea market in Cuijk (Netherlands). The lamp actually only consisted of the lamp body, without the burner etc., but it was also very cheap.

At home I noticed that the bottom of the tinplate font was completely rusted. I had to cut the bottom off and replace it with new galvanised sheet steel.

The Satsuma vase is probably one of the mass-produced and cheaply made items for the European market; the painting is quite casual and with minor imperfections. The vase is produced with the corresponding hole for the threaded rod at the bottom. A signature is missing. It is also crooked. I had to sand down quite a bit at the bottom, but still I did not manage to get the lamp completely vertical.

I completed the lamp with a 14’’’ Kosmos burner by Stübgen and with the matching chimney. The ball shade from France has the usual two-part design: the upper half is frosted, but the lower half is transparent with engraved floral motifs.

Now a large Satsuma lamp has come about as a "souvenir" from Cuijk in the Netherlands.

Base of ornamental, openwork cast brass, on 4 feet, ca. 12 x 12 cm, Ø 150 mm. Between base and vase a wide brass ring as connector.
Vase of Satsuma ceramic without signature, with hole for threaded rod, Ø 148 mm. Ornamental vase collar of cast brass, Ø 138 mm.
Font of galvanised sheet iron (bottom renewed). Connected to the base by a threaded rod. Bassin lid of ornamentally punched sheet brass, Ø 120 mm.

14’’’ Kosmos burner of Stübgen, Erfurt.
Wick knob marked: Logo of Stübgen. Black glass inlay.
Flat wick 67 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 250 mm, Ø fitter 53 mm.
Marked: Cristal Supérieur 14''' + crown in garland.

Shade and shade holder:
Ball shade, colourless glass, upper half frosted, bottom transparent with engraved flowers, without slip fitter.
Height 157 mm, Ø bottom opening 57 and bulge 174 mm.
85 mm globe holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners.

Lamp dimensions:
Height up to collar 34.3 cm, total height with chimney 63.6 cm.
Total weight 2470 g.
