A somewhat unusual lamp in terms of colour choice, with Satsuma ceramic and decorative cast brass base. Probably made around 1890-1900.

The vase of the lamp is made of Japanese Satsuma ceramic (marked with a Japanese sign on the inside), even if at first glance it bears no resemblance to the usual Satsuma wares. The intense blue background colour used in places is particularly striking. It is well known that several completely independent ceramic factories in different places in Japan produced "Satsuma ware". The vase of this lamp is probably from such a manufactory, which used other than the usual Satsuma motifs.

All the metal parts of the lamp were excellently cleaned; I did not have to do any extra work here.

The ball shade on the lamp was a little undersized. It got instead a rare tulip shade by Cristallerie de Pantin, with intensely painted flowers that complemented the lamp well, even if the colours did not match well. Strangely, the colours of the tulip shade were partly scraped, partly completely dull. I renewed the entire painting with special glass paints.

Wick knob marked: Logo of Gaudard.
Flat wick 64 mm.

Glass chimney:
14’’’ Kosmos chimney. Height 248 mm, Ø fitter 53 mm.
Marked: Cristalline + eagle (rest blurred).

Shade and shade holder:
Tulip shade by Cristallerie de Pantin, colourless glass, etched with Pantin's typical ice pattern, painted flowers, top rim 6-fold inward curled and gold coloured. Handwritten 1094 on the fitter.
Height 176 mm, Ø fitter 70 and bulge 167 mm.
70 mm globe holder for 14’’’/15’’’ burners.

Height up to collar 34.2 cm, total height with chimney 62.8 cm.
