L.090

This lamp is an original Moderator lamp to use in French hanging lamps, later converted to a kerosene/paraffin lamp. The end plate at the bottom bears the letters L and B. They could stand for Lépine et Bourdon (Paris).

The ball shaped vase is a Satsuma ware with the typical pasty application of paint. Lush flowers with small butterflies are painted on three large medallions. A Japanese signature is present.

The supplied burner (15’’’ Augusta burner by Otto Müller) and the marked chimney are perfectly fine and remain on it.

The large spherical shape of the lamp actually calls for a ball shade of about the same size. Since I didn't have a suitable one at hand, I dared to experiment and put a wide but squat tulip shade for gas lamps on here. The tulip shade has a top rim in cranberry colour and is decorated with hand-engraved decoration. For this tulip shade I made a two-tiered globe holder by hand from a regular globe holder and decorative brass band.
