L.129

Unusual find on eBay Germany: a completely preserved British lamp! The shape of the brass column and the painting of the glass font show Art Nouveau elements; therefore probably made around 1900-1910.

The real ornament of the lamp is the glass font made of light green opal glass, which is painted with floral garlands in a very appealing Art Nouveau design.

The base is very unusual: it is made of black painted sheet iron with a large weight of cast iron inside. This was probably intended to imitate the black glazed stoneware bases of common British lamps. The plain column is of ornamentally pressed sheet brass.

The burner is a normal Duplex burner with "Duplex" on the wick knobs (manufacturer unknown).

The chimney supplied was an oval bulge Duplex chimney, but without a mark. I replaced it with a branded Duplex chimney.
