A British lamp that is rather reminiscent of Belgian lamps. The design of the entire lamp in hallmarked brass, including the removable font, the openwork decoration on the column and the elaborate hallmarking after Rococo motifs bear a great deal of resemblance to the Belgian central air draft lamps. However, the font collar with Messenger marking, which is not subsequently soldered on, and the brass font, which does not belong to a central air draft lamp, speak against this. Another mystery about the lamp is the small mark on the base, which probably comes from a French dealer. It could even be a proper Messenger lamp for the French market. Let's just say a downright European lamp in the sum...

The lamp was perfectly cleaned and polished when I got it. I only had to change the burner, as the one supplied was from Hinks, while the collar says Messenger. So I put a Messenger burner on here.

I subsequently bought a beautiful British tulip shade at auction, which very happily completes the lamp in its playful design (multiple wavy top rim; fine motif design with the look of lace).
