L.348

A large salon lamp by the Belgian manufacturer Moreau Frères in Liège. The lamp captivates with its extraordinarily impressive floral design in the classic Art Nouveau style of Belgium. This differs fundamentally from the rather dainty Belgian table lamps. The unusual height also makes it an "eye-catcher". The ornamentally embossed brass surface has an unusual treatment: there are polished, high-gloss areas that clearly stand out from the matt finished rest.

The lamp is probably made around 1900-1910. Moreau Frères named their lamps "Lampe Liégeoise" (= Lamp from Liège).

This splendid lamp should definitely be completed with a shade that matches its size, style and ornamentation. I succeeded to find the perfectly matching British tulip shade. The shape of this shade harmonizes very well with the curved shape of the lamp legs. In addition, its Art Nouveau floral motifs perfectly match the floral elements of the vase.

Another lucky purchase is the French glass chimney, which bears the name "Liégeoise" as part of its brand and can therefore be clearly assigned to the Liège lamps of Moreau Frères.
