L.232
A simple, unpretentious, wrought-iron floor lamp from Great Britain and I was very pleased when I was allowed to buy it. I have wanted a British floor lamp for a very long time, and preferably in ornate brass. Such lamps often appear on eBay UK, but always only for self-collection. I guess they are afraid of the hassle of packing.
After 2-3 years of trying in vain, I had already given up hope. And then someone offered this lamp and was also willing to pack it and send it to Germany! I could hardly believe it. An elderly couple wanted to move into a smaller flat and had to part with many things. The lamp arrived in two separate parcels completely intact.
The lamp body is completely made of wrought iron and was painted white at some point. I painted it black with Faubourg Patina and polished it. I painted the S-shaped inner parts and screw heads with copper bronze and heightened them with gold wax (Laiton + classique). As usual, the lamp can be extended in height. The font is made of copper. The lid is interestingly much darker than the lower part.
The burner supplied was a high quality Duplex burner by Evered, which I was very happy to use on another lamp with an Evered collar (L.041). I used a Duplex burner from Hinks with repair spots, but with a nice patina, here as a replacement.
I have replaced the simple ball shade with a very large tulip shade, from S. Reich in Vienna. Possibly it is produced for large gas lamps in public buildings. With its large lower opening, it needed a 120-125 mm globe holder, which I did not have. To anchor it securely anyway, I used an additional globe holder with extra prongs soldered on. I also fitted an unusually long Matador chimney instead of a Duplex chimney to give the lamp a chimney that clearly protrudes above the tulip shade.
