L.356
A common zinc cast lamp from the Wilhelminian period, but still unusual in its shape. It is probably from France because of the Baccarat font, but it came to me from Great Britain!
The base has very lush, baroque ornamentation, typical of the Wilhelminian period. Stylised dolphins sit on three imposing feet, their bodies forming three upward curving connectors to the top of the small column. The casting would have to be quite old, or it is somewhat rustically cast, because the surface is quite rough. I have not seen this unusual foot in any catalogue.
The Baccarat glass font is decorated with two rows of olive cuts. I had to exchange the original burner (delivered without gallery and basket) with the inscription "Importé d'Allemagne" on the wick knob with an intact Kosmos burner.
The lamp got a non-decorated, inside frosted ball shade without fitter. After bronzing the almost completely blackened base with gold wax, the lamp regained its original appearance.
