An unusual, unexpected find! A beautiful Art Nouveau lamp, very distinctive in shape, and almost all parts are complete. “K. Moser" is stamped on the bottom side of the base! Koloman Moser was one of the most famous and productive designers of the Wiener Werkstätte; he was even its founding member; and this lamp is probably a product of this very renowned workshop, because the choice of materials and the care taken in its manufacture speak for it. Of course, it could also come from another high-quality manufacturer of the Art Nouveau period. I still have to research whether the lamp is actually a design by Koloman Moser.

For a Viennese lamp, I would have expected a high-quality burner by Ditmar. But the lamp is equipped with a 15’’’ Matador burner by Ehrich & Graetz. The burner must be an earlier burner, because the flame disc still bears the designation "Fabrik Marke". The chimney also has the Ehrich & Graetz logo. I replaced the supplied, slightly damaged globe holder with a high-quality globe holder.

The colourless glass shade is more like the British beehive shape and is sparsely ornamentally etched. I think this shade suits this lamp because it looks unpretentious and modern and complements the lamp quite well in this way.

There was also one downer with this lamp: the font had probably only recently been plastered. It was made of thick ceramic and was probably originally the lower part of a flower pot. The original glass font had probably had to be replaced at some point. I made an old glass font (originally cemented under a majolica lid) to fit by sanding down a lot of the top neck and cemented it in.

This lamp is one of the most remarkable lamps in my collection both because of its unique Art Nouveau shape and because of the K. Moser name stamped on the side. I therefore suspect it is a product of the Wiener Werkstätte and could actually be a design by Koloman Moser. At some point I will have to consult museum experts.
