L.294
A rather small lamp made of silver-plated, very high-quality cast metal, which may have stood as a boudoir lamp in a lady's bedroom. The lamp body, which is also the font, has two different nature scenes at the front and back. The base and the handles are designed in baroque style. Date of manufacture approx. 1880-1890. Origin unknown.
The vase shows two different, naturalistic depictions of plants in strong relief. The meadow plants as well as the butterflies are wonderfully rendered in a highly detailed cast. Unfortunately, the silver layer on the vase is quite rubbed off, so that the surface shines coppery. The two handles, on the other hand, have retained their silver coating well. The cast brass foot barely has a silver layer left. I tried to silver-plate the lamp body myself. I didn't succeed very well; but the almost brownish-copper surface is covered with silver again to some extent.
I had to clean the supplied burner from glue residues and bring it back into shape. It is nickel-plated and therefore fits the lamp well. I silver-plated the globe holder.
The green tulip shade with the golden garlands is from France and fits stylistically well.
