L.069
An attractive lamp with a zinc cast base and a painted glass vase whose painting is reminiscent of Zsolnay style. The vase does not bear a signature; therefore the origin of the lamp is unknown. It is either from Germany or Austria, if not directly from Hungary. Probably made around 1900-1910.
The vase of light beige opal glass is painted with stylised flowers in the style of Zsolnay or Ignác Fischer vases. Combined with the highly ornamented cast zinc base, this makes for a high quality lamp body. The cast zinc lid of the glass font is also beautifully decorated. However, the ornamentation here is not, as expected, from the same decorative elements of the base. My feeling is that this cast zinc lid is probably from a different lamp. My assumption in this regard is reinforced by the fact that both parts were also patinated quite differently when I received the lamp.
The burner was a randomly assembled burner from quite different parts. I therefore replaced the burner with a Matador burner by Ehrich & Graetz.
Many years later, I managed to get a beautifully painted Vesta shade whose painting harmonises very well with the vase painting.
