A British glass lamp in an unusual shape for British lamps; probably more likely to date to the 1880's.

The glass vase ends in a cast brass metal piece at the top. Underneath, the rim of the glass had some broken areas, probably because the threaded rod had been tightened too much. To prevent further damage, I glued an appropriately made brass ring to this spot. This ring is invisible from the outside as it is covered by the brass trim piece.

This lamp was offered with a Victoria burner by Young. However, I did not have the very rare Victoria chimney for this burner at hand. Therefore, I bought another, also very British burner at an auction and mounted it on this lamp.

The burner from The Silber Light Co. in London is quite a rarity. It combines the advantages of a Kosmos burner and a flame disc burner, but does not need a flame disc. See Other Burners - The Round Burner of Silber Light Co. The burner does have an integrated globe holder, but very similar to the Moderator burners, it is only suitable for holding a globe. In order to install the old tulip shade I intended for this lamp, I had to put an additional conventional type globe holder on it. The burner needs a bayonet collar. However, the lamp has a normal threaded collar. Therefore, I simply inserted the burner into the collar.

There was also a problem with this burner for the matching chimney. The burner needs a bottle-shape chimney in 14-line size; but they are as rare as the Victoria chimneys mentioned above. But luckily Ara in Paris had a suitable German chimney for Solaroel burners that I could use here.

The unusually shaped tulip shade is probably even a lot older than the burner.

All in all, the result is a beautiful, imposing and, to my mind, time-honoured British lamp.
