A former Moderator oil lamp with ceramic vase, made around 1850-1870. Electrified sometime in the 20th century. All the Moderator technology inside is present except for the destroyed burner.

The baluster-shaped vase of black-glazed ceramic has been hand-painted in gold paint with flowers and a large butterfly. The gold painting is very well preserved and gives the lamp a contrasting, fresh appearance.

The vase still has the Moderator technique in it; they had only sawed and destroyed the burner to fit an electric socket to it. I had to saw quite a lot off it to fit the brass undermount arrangement I had put together.

I cemented the crystal glass font into the brass undermount. A Reform burner from Arlt & Fricke with a marked Kalthoff chimney and a classically beautiful St. Louis tulip shade completed the lamp in style.
