L.024

A slim, elegant glass lamp by Wild & Wessel. I decided to buy it late, because the glass font is not an original part from W&W. Moreover, the upper edge of the glass vase was broken. The missing part had been filled with plaster. On the other hand, the glass vase was excellently painted and the lamp had a beautiful tulip shade that matched the lamp very well. This last point finally persuaded me to buy the lamp.

I know that the lamp was made by W&W because of the brass mounts that were also used on another lamp with milk glass parts. And this lamp was clearly from W&W, because the white, elongated cut glass parts were very similar to the early W&W lamps (e.g. L.269 and L.338) and furthermore the crystal font had the typical W&W metal undermount. After all, a collector friend who has specialised in high-quality W&W lamps for decades bought that lamp immediately because he was completely convinced of W&W's provenance.

The vase is painted with fine flowers on the front and back. The quality of the painting is excellent. The lamp can be counted among the early products from about 1865-1875.

I had the vase repaired by Mr Kühnel. I replaced the burner that came with it with a W&W Kosmos burner.  The brass castings are each stamped: SH 908. After the usual cleaning of the metal parts, this lamp now joins the ranks of my very early W&W lamps.
